Digital Collection: Living While Black: Learning from the Past
Centuries of African Americans’ experiences have been a mixture of violence, dehumanization, and discrimination, and yet there are stories of survival and achievements that are yet to be completely unveiled. Though their skin color has been historically weaponized to deny African Americans’ humanity, dismiss and ignore their intellectual abilities, African Americans’ contribution have a history of contribution to the success of the United States that remains largely unsung. Living While Black sings of African Americans' survival despite inhumane treatments and violence in times when their agency and humanity were denied, and their contributions, prominence, and excellence were often overlooked, denied, or hidden. This digital exhibition is a journey to unveiling the often unknown, dismissed, and even hidden excellence of African Americans in the US.
