Utah State University Libraries' Special Collections & Archives is celebrating Utah Archives Month this October by highlighting materials that explore this year's theme, "Home in the Archives."
Utah Archives Month is celebrated as part of American Archives Month, which takes place every October across the United States to highlight historical records, cultural heritage collections, and the work of archivists.
For this year's theme, the Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board (USHRAB) invites cultural heritage organizations and individuals throughout Utah to share photographs, letters, postcards, scrapbooks and other documents that illustrate what "home" means to them.
USU Libraries' Special Collections & Archives preserves a wide range of materials documenting the people, places and communities of Utah and the Intermountain West. These collections offer many perspectives on the idea of home.
As part of Utah Archives Month, Special Collections & Archives is highlighting a couple digital collections that connect with this year's theme.
Cache County Tax Assessment Collection
Approximately 3400 photographs of residences and businesses in Cache County, Utah, taken from the 1930s to the 1960s. These photographs were taken by the county for record-keeping purposes and were stapled or taped to tax assessment cards.
A-Board Historical Photograph Collection
The A-Board historical photograph collection consists of around 8800 images mounted onto archival boards. The collection includes many images from Logan and Cache Valley, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. Also included are images of the Union Pacific Railroad, the Southern Pacific Railroad, the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, the Western cattle industry, wagon freighting, and Mormon historical sites and buildings.
