What is Public Domain?

From copyrightlately.com
Public domain refers to works of art, literature, music, and other intellectual property that are no longer protected by copyright law and are free for anyone to use. When a work enters the public domain, it means that no one holds exclusive rights to it, so anyone can copy, share, adapt, and redistribute it without seeking permission or paying royalties. These works can include famous books, artwork, films, music, and more, providing a valuable resource for creativity and cultural heritage.

Come celebrate Public Domain Day at our tabling event in the library’s main atrium from January 22 - 23! We’ll have a fun, informative table where you can learn more about the public domain, its importance, and how it benefits everyone. Plus, we’ll have snacks and we'll even help you make your own button featuring images from works that are now in the public domain!
Whether you’re curious about copyright law, a history buff, or just love free resources, stop by to see us!
