Textbook Declaration Deadline and Open Educational Resources (OER)

The textbook declaration deadline for Spring 2023 is October 10th. Please note if your course uses OER.

Thank you in advance to all the instructors who are choosing to teach with Open Educational Resources (OER) and other free and affordable course materials. Reducing the cost of course materials has a real impact on student retention and achievement!

OER come in many formats such as videos, online activities, lesson plans, lecture notes, and full textbooks. These resources are an excellent way to supplement your curriculum and possibly replace expensive traditional textbooks. They can be accessed online, downloaded, or printed. OER can be modified to meet the cultural and accessibility needs of your students.

October 10th is the textbook declaration for Spring 2023. For those teaching with OER, please indicate that so we can track student savings and show your instructional impact. Your OER will likely have a Creative Commons (CC) license that allows you to keep, copy, and edit the material. If you don’t see a Creative Commons license or you aren’t sure whether the free material you are using is an OER, you can reach out to oer@usu.edu and we’ll be able to tell you.

If you would like to get started using OER, we’d love to hear from you. The OER Team at the Merrill-Cazier Library can help locate quality Open and affordable resources that align with your instructional needs and your students’ needs!
