Revamp your Research Assignment: An Interdisciplinary Virtual Workshop for Graduate Instructors and Faculty

Revamp your Research Assignment: USU Libraries Assignment Design Workshop
When: Week of December 6, 2021
Where: Self-paced Canvas content with one 60-90 minute synchronous meeting (Zoom). Meeting time TBD based on scheduling preferences; asynchronous options may be arranged if needed.

As a partner in student learning, the USU Libraries is holding a virtual workshop in which a group of instructors engage in reviewing and redesigning a research assignment. This dynamic and collaborative event will provide an opportunity for intensive peer feedback from an interdisciplinary group of colleagues, facilitated by librarians. Assignments can be for graduate or undergraduate courses in any department. All materials will be available via Canvas.

This semester we are offering a track for graduate instructors and a track for faculty; faculty will be in groups with other faculty, and graduate students with other graduate students. However, each graduate instructor group will have an experienced teaching faculty mentor as part of their workshop experience.

Participant commitment:

  • Submit a research assignment by Monday, November 15th
  • Read two interdisciplinary colleagues’ assignments prior to the online workshop
  • Participate in a 60-90-minute Zoom meeting at a mutually agreed upon time, in which you share your feedback on your colleagues’ assignments and receive feedback on yours

Benefits to participants:

  • Receive feedback on a course assignment from faculty colleagues, other graduate instructors, a librarian, and/or a faculty mentor
  • Reflect on the design of a research assignment for your course
  • Engage in an online community of practice around teaching
  • Receive a stipend ($150 Amazon gift card)

Spaces are limited. Apply today!

Application deadline: Monday, November 1st, 2021
