HTC Vive Instructions

Computer Setup

Turn on the TV by pressing the green power button on the TV remote. Press the power button on the computer tower. The computer will log in automatically. Double-click the "VIVE Console" application on the desktop. You will see a window that says "searching for headset".

Headset Setup

First, double-check that you have all of the required parts. This includes:

  • Vive headset
  • Wireless adaptor (curved, black sensor attached to top of headset)
  • Two controllers
  • Battery pack
  • Belt clip (optional) 
  • USB cable

Using the USB cable, connect the battery pack to the back of the headset's wireless adaptor. Connecting the adapter will turn both the adapter and the battery on. Wait for the wireless adaptor to show a solid green light. Don't panic if VIVE Console shows errors, it should connect in under 30 seconds.

Steam Setup

Open Steam on the computer. It will show the official USU labs account. Ask the consultant to log it in for you.

Wearing the Headset

Position yourself in the center of the room. Put the battery pack in your pocket or use the belt clip. Loosen the headset by turning the knob on the back counterclockwise. Put it on your head, then tighten it by turning the knob clockwise. To adjust focus: turn the lens-distance knob on the bottom left of the headset. A panel will appear with instructions. Now, pick up the controllers and put on the safety straps. Turn on the controllers by pressing and holding the steam menu button (refer to the controller button overview).

Launching Apps/Games

Launch apps in VR using the Steam Menu button, or from the steam desktop using the menu on the left.
