Merrill-Cazier Library is honored to announce that the 2019 Arrington Lecturer will be Stanford University historian and author Dr. Richard White. Dr. White will speak about all the possibilities that arose with nineteenth-century American railroads. These possibilities seemed magnified in the transcontinentals, which came to epitomize progress, nationalism, and civilization itself. But to understand the significance of these railroads on the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Pacific Railroad, we need to look at what they collectively achieved and what they failed to achieve. They remade the continent, but this was not necessarily always a good thing.
Join us at this special event on Thursday, September 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the Logan Tabernacle. This is free and open to the public.
