Open Access Week

Open For Climate Justice: Lightning Talks

Thursday, Oct. 27th, 12-1 pm | LIB 101 or Zoom

Climate Justice is an explicit acknowledgement that the climate crisis has far-reaching effects, and the impacts are not being borne equally or fairly, between rich and poor, older and younger generations, and people of all genders. Open access can create pathways to more equitable knowledge sharing and serve as a means to address the inequities that shape the impacts of climate change and our response to them. Hear from USU researchers on how making their work open promotes climate justice and hear from local organizations about the challenges they face in accessing current research to help tackle the climate crisis.

Funding Open

Friday, Oct. 28th, 12-1 pm | LIB 101 or Zoom

Open access scholarship comes with plenty of benefits—equitable access, greater reach, higher impact, and more. However, it can often come with a hefty price tag. Join USU Libraries for a special roundtable discussion on funding open access scholarship. Learn about the variety of funding opportunities available, hear from fellow researchers about the advantages and challenges of open scholarship, and share your own experiences with making your work open. Pizza will be provided.

About Open Access Week

From openaccessweek.org

Open Access Week is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.

Open Access to information – the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need – has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted. It has direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry, and for society as a whole.

By focusing on Climate Justice, OA Week 2022 seeks to encourage connection and collaboration among the climate movement and the international open community. Sharing knowledge is a human right, and tackling the climate crisis requires the rapid exchange of knowledge across geographic, economic, and disciplinary boundaries.
