Consortial Database Purchases
The Merrill-Cazier Library participates in consortia and network deals in order to obtain the best pricing for databases and other electronic resources. A consortium or a network brings together a number of libraries, generally united by geographical proximity or type of library (e.g. academic, public, etc.). The resulting organization co-operates to enhance library resources and services for their member institutions--including negotiating pricing with library vendors. At USU we participate in the BCR Network, the Utah Academic Library Consortium (UALC), Utah Pioneer, the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA), as well as a few informal consortial deals with the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. (Data based on FY2007 close.)
