Acquisitions purchases library materials from vendors and suppliers in a variety of formats, including books, electronic resources, videos, compact discs, music scores, maps, microforms, etc. However, it is the subject librarians and the USU Community members that select the materials we purchase. Library materials are selected in three ways:
Requests for the purchase of materials should be submitted using the web-based request form. All requests are then forwarded to the subject librarian for that area. Book orders can take from 4-8 weeks to arrive and if you want to be notified once the material is available, please make a note in the request form. Please, check the Merrill-Cazier Online Catalog before submitting a request. The Online Catalog maintains records for materials which are on order, in processing, or cataloged, and new titles are added daily. You may find that your material is already in the process of being added to the collection. Note: if you find an item of interest in the catalog that has been ordered, but has not yet been fully processed, you may request it by stopping by the Circulation Desk or contacting John Fleming (email) or call 7-2674.
Rush Requests:
Once an order request has been approved, Acquisitions staff can rush the order if needed. Rush requests should be reserved for circumstances where materials are needed by a certain date in the near future. Candidates for rush ordering might include, for example, resources needed by a faculty member to meet a research project deadline, and urgent end-of-the-year requests.
Journal requests:
Journal requests or questions should be sent to Kevin Brewer, 7-3961.
Approval books are put on display in the New Book Reading Lounge on the 2nd Level of the Merrill-Cazier Library and are on a monthly rotation. If you'd like additional information about the Acquisitions Department or the Approval Plan, please call John Fleming (Assistant Acquisitions Librarian) at 797-2674.
