Unfortunately research in Special Collections is not as simple as research in the Library. There are several
places to search instead of one. To exhaust all your options:
Use the Special Collections & Archives Search Engines for on-line registers
Visit Special Collections & Archives in person to use the card catalogs
Visit Special Collections & Archives in person to see the print-only registers (those registers not available on-line)
Consult with a curator or Special Collections & Archives staff
The material in Special Collections & Archives does not circulate
and must be used in the Division's reading room. These materials are
available for anyone to use during our open times. However, in our efforts to preserve these
materials, use will be more closely monitored than use of materials in other parts of the library.

The copyright law of the United States
(Title 17, United States Code) governs the making
of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, librarians and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study scholarship, or research."
If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
1. Illustrative materials (photographs, drawings, etc.) must be used in the Tanner Reading Room and do not circulate, nor are they loaned for copying.
2. All duplication orders are payable in advance.
3. If the negative for a requested item is not on file, the patron is required to pay for one. All such copy negatives are retained by Special Collections. If the patron wishes to buy a copy negative, a second one will be made for an additional $5.00.
4. Permission will be granted for one-time, non-exclusive use of items for publication, exhibition/display, or any other use if the proposed use is specified.
5. Materials used for publication, exhibition, or display must be credited to Utah State University Special Collections.
6. The publishing party must provide Special Collections with one copy of any publication (monograph, serial, calendar, videotape, etc.).
7. Utah State University Special Collections does not claim to control copyright for all items in the collection. The publishing party assumes all responsibility for clearing reproduction rights and for any infringement of United States copyright law (U.S. Code, Title 17).
8. Special Collections reserves the right to refuse permission for use or publication when such restrictions have been specified by a donor.
