Scope and Content:

The Anderson Studio photograph collection consists of 186 mostly unidentified images. These black-and-white photos date from the 1940s to the early 1970s and, with a few exceptions, were taken in and around Preston, Idaho. Included are images of agriculture, Preston High School activities, individual portraits, a man-hunt from the 1960s, accidents, the Preston sugar beet factory, boy scouts, civic and LDS Church groups, and Preston businesses.

These photographs were given to Newell Hart by Anderson Studio via Karol L. Anderson in 1975.

1:001-012. Automobile accidents, fires, and train wrecks, 1945-1965.

1:025-026. Preston High School chorus.
1:027. Preston High School basketball including 1963 team.

1:040-045. Miscellaneous portraits.
1:046. Open casket funderal for an infant.
1:047-048. Bean crops: a stringing machine and a school group visiting a bean farm.
1:049-078. Miscellaneous adult groups, including the Lions Club, men receiving Utah Power and Light safety awards, women cooking, LDS Church and civic groups. Some are undoubtably educators.
1:079. Five fishermen with a large catch, probably salmon.
1:080-084. image Pictures of a manhunt and two captured men (one of whom is African-American) and a cache of guns. Also a photograph of a First Security Bank of Idaho vault that appears to have been blown open, perhaps the cause of the manhunt, ca. 1965.
1:085-088. Ceremony for the "Parking Meters Last Rites" on the steps of the Franklin County Court House, 1956.
1:089-092. Boy Scout (Explorer Scouts) activities, Troop 137.
1:093-097. Interiors and exteriors of Preston sugar beet factory including the Lime Kiln, Franklin County Sugar Co.
1:098-099. Man in a wheelchair, also using an iron lung[?].
1:100-101. Irrigation canal and diversion dam, probably on the Bear River.
1:102-166. Copy prints of historic photographs, including several of Grace, Idaho around the turn of the century. Includes store interiors, family group portraits, basketball, wagons, early automobiles, dam building, civic groups, homes, bands, football, salmon, agriculture, and the Providence Ward School from 1902.
