Scope and Content:

The text and photographs (49 black-and-white silver gelatin photographs, 24 x 17.5 cm. and smaller) document the travels across the country of Vaudeville performer Ernest Dupille in 1914. He traveled all over the western United States and wrote his observations down in a notebook entitled, "Travels of a Troubador" (58 pages of holograph text, single-sided). Dupille's observations include facts about the places visited and his perceptions of the people. The photographs include scenic views, Dupille posing with local people, and images of Native Americans. He does not, however, offer much comment on his performances.

Provenance:

The Ernest Dupille travelogue and photographs were purchased in March of 1994.

Register completed by Peter Schmid, May 1998, and revised by Daniel Davis, May 2006.
