The Susan Sunada Papers, (1960-2003)
COLL MSS 59
Biographical Sketch:
Susan Sunada was born in Utah, the daughter of Japanese-American pioneers. A graduate of Los Angeles City College, Susan worked as a photojournalist for the Deseret News in the 1960s and 1970s and was presented with an "Outstanding Correspondent" award. She was the writer, producer, and directer for Logan’s Bicentennial Celebration ice show and has represented Japanese and Chinese pioneers in the Cache Valley’s "Festival of the American West" for numerous years. In 2002, Susan was awarded the National Association for Asian American Studies Lifetime Achievement award. She continues to offer a wealth of information from her significant research on Japanese pioneers. She is the author of Tiny Treasures (1970), Wedding Treasures (1974), and “Japanese Pioneers in the Intermountain Area” (1991).
Provenance:
The papers that comprise this collection were donated to USU Special Collections & Archives by George and Susan Sunada in three batches, two during the 1980s and one in 2003.
