The Crabtree Family Papers, (1777-1972)

COLL MSS 327

Processed by Mailee Cook/Sara Skindelien, February 2008

Biographical Background:

The Crabtree ancestors of Charlotte Crabtree Fisher can be traced back to 1683 in Yorkshire County, England. Her great-great-great grandfather William Crabtree settled near Baltimore, Maryland with his family in 1705. The Crabtree family were early settlers in Kentucky and Virginia and a number of them fought in the Revolutionary War and Civil War.

Charlotte Crabtree Fisher, who also went by the names of Lottie and Charlotta, was born on September 13, 1902 in Wilmette Creek, Illinois to Abijah Crabtree and Mary Ellen Swift Crabtree. She married Harry C. Fisher in Evanston, Illinois on May 28, 1916 and had a son Stanley Dean Fisher in 1920. She died at the age of 92 on February 20, 1991 in Glencoe, Illinois.

Provenance:

This collection was donated to USU Special Collections on May 24, 2000 as part of the Leonard J. Arrington Collection (LJAHA #1). Although Charlotte Crabtree Fisher collected and organized the Crabtree family papers, it remains unclear how this material came into Arrington’s possession.

Scope and Content:

This collection consists of the Crabtree family history materials in the form of correspondence, family photos, family pedigrees, census records and newspaper clippings. Box 1 is arranged chronologically and contains pedigree charts and family photos. It also contains the correspondence and miscellaneous notes that Crabtree descendant Charlotte Fisher collected in her attempt to construct a Crabtree family tree. Box 2 contains various other family materials which are arranged alphabetically.
