Scope & Content Note
The collection includes published reports and articles dealing with litter, recycling, and litter legislation; research raw data done at Kernville, California and at other sites, including surveys taken regarding trash; and correspondence and photographs dealing with litter and environmental protection themes. Materials date from the late 1960s through the early 80s.
Organizational Note
When the collection was donated to U.S.U., approximately two-thirds of it had been given a filing order by the originators, while one-third was held loosely in boxes. The organized material had been placed alphabetically in order in file folders. Though there were inconsistencies in this filing order, it was decided to retain it so as to avoid altering an order that might be very meaningful. The unprocessed portion of the collection has been organized as closely as possible to this original order. A detailed register of the collection has been produced to aid the researcher in locating materials.
Provenance
The Anti-Litter Campaign Collection was deposited in the Special Collections Department in the spring of 1987 by Grayson Osborne, one of the major creators of the collection. Grayson Osborne and Richard Powers from USU's Psychology Department headed the research and survey efforts on this subject and the material they generated and collected composes the major portion of the collection. Graduate students and others also contributed to the collections' contents.
