Back to Czechoslovakia: Interwar Democracy

poem
T.G.M.
When his gaze shone over us,
Here every one of us happily searched for truth.

When he spoke with his clear voice,
We went into the fight and would go again,

When he spoke, his words like the storm's thunder,
It always awakened in our soul a clear, clean tone.

When in the storm of life to us he spoke,
Always in us he awakened courage and strength,

When in the storm we saw his peace
It invigorated us, his people.

When he left with a desire to look after us,
We went to work faithfully, because he, TGM is ours.

-Jaroslav Veverka
