Catherine Pickett

Catherine Pickett came from Massachusetts where she’d been working in a hospital. She’d had a great deal of experience in hospitals. Due to defective vision from birth, she never was allowed to pick up nursing studies, but she’s made up for it with a great deal of reading. She’s done more reading in medical matters than any human being that I know of.

Many times when I’ve gone down there [to the clinic] to make my morning rounds, I’ve found that a patient was in [Catherine’s] own bed and she had slept on a box out in the hall in order to take care of this additional patient, for whom we didn’t have the room in the regular beds.—Liebler
