| St. Chrispher's Mission Clinic Dedicated April 25, 1956 |

|
The new clinic was a big help. There were two bed wards, one for men and one for women, but the stork generally kept them both of them busy. There were also four childrens beds and eight bassinets. It was not often full, but there were times when Catherine gave up her bed and napped on a chest in the hall. Catherine Pickett was a jewel, being on call 24 hours a day. One night when there was no doctor available, three expectant mothers arrived at about the same time and in about the same condition. In a half-hour, Catherine had delivered one on the delivery table, another on a stretcher and the third in bed. The rest of the staff was kept busy cleaning up the mothers and babies and getting them bedded down. Another time, a flu and pneumonia epidemic struck. We had all the beds full and others on cots and stretchers where ever we could find room. It was work, but it was interesting and at times exciting as we battled to save a life or bring a new one into the world.Brother Juniper's Tales of Navajoland |
