List of Informants

Jones - Randall Jones is an architect in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has lived there for eight years. He is a native of San Francisco and returns there for visits as often as he can. He is 32 years old and is married with no children. He and his wife are practicing Catholics. Randy is interested in cemeteries and burial rites. His backyard has a stone fence that incorporates old tombstones as part of the design. He likes to backcountry ski and hike. Items 1, 3, 6, 8, 13, 16.

Clover - Mary Clover is from Panguitch, Utah. She is a beautician in Salt Lake City. She works full-time and spends her off-hours in the mountains camping. She is 27 years old and single. She learned a lot about the supernatural from her mother who used to play with Ouija boards on a regular basis. As a result of her mother's influence, Mary has a deep regard for the occult and has explored a number of "new age" religious groups. Items 2, 5, 10, 11, 14.

Adams - Lynn Adams is 38 years old and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is divorced and is a single parent of her two sons. Lynn grew up in southeast Salt Lake. Her parents had a Mormon background, but neither one was a devout member of the church. Lynn does not consider herself a member of the Mormon Church, nor of any other religion. She has an MFA degree in Art from the University of Utah. She works as an illustrator for. Items 9, 12, 15.

Land - Bruce Land moved to Salt Lake when he was 12. He is a free-lance writer. He went to the University of Utah, majoring in journalism. Bruce does not belong to any religion. He lives on the Avenues in Salt Lake. He likes to hike and ski and travel. Items 4 and 7.

Note: All my informants are white, middle-class, generally from protestant backgrounds.
